Book-Life is A Project

Below is the last page of my book-Life is A Project.

Project Leadership

I started writing this book on the 13th of May 2021-the day we celebrated Eid Fitr in 2021. My intention was to share my life experience in managing projects over the last thirty years of my life as a JKR engineer, Project Manager in Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor and GM of Ampang Hilir Property developers.  I gained business project management when I joined TDM Berhad, a listed KLSE company as a GM and later became the MD. When I retired to do business of my own business in construction, water engineering and IT, the project is my business. I did projects for others as well as for my own company.

Project management is close to my heart and stomach. It is my passion and bread and butter even though when I was the CEO of TDM whose core business is plantation and fast food. I was the project manager who grew up to be the project leader. This process took about ten years. Project Management is not an exact physical science subject like mathematics and science. It is more of social science. We are dealing with the people to get the job done.

In school, we have lessons first and later we take the test. A few pass with flying colours and a few also fail. In real life, we are given the test first and later we learn our lesson if any. Many of us still make the same mistakes because we had failed to learn any lessons. History has to repeat itself to educate us. It was the ego in us who refused to learn at our own perils.

Along the journey of life, we encounter many projects- personal or business projects that we have to manage. Project by definition is a temporary endeavour undertaken to produce a product or a service and an outcome.

Looking back at the fifty project stories that I shared in the book, there are a lot of things I mentioned and discussed in order the get the job done or deliver the goods. At the higher level, the leader must deliver the trust given by their followers. The role of the leader is not limited to being in charge of people and projects under you but it also encompasses the job of taking charge. In the simple proverb, a leader is like a shepherd. You have to ensure all the sheep have eaten well and are safe from the wolves and return home every day.

Your life is itself a project. Inside your life project are all the projects you have to do and deliver from the day you were at school until your last day on this planet earth. Your life as a project is the sum total of your projects and the project activities executed in congruence with your life goals. And your life goals will be generated and dictated by your personal worldview of this life. So, it is imperative that all of us must have the right worldview.

At the end of each story in the book, I attach a page for you to answer a few questions related to the subject matter so that you can get the most benefits from reading this book.
