LIFE IS A PROJECT : PROJECT CAR

Image
LIFER IS A PROJECT-Project Car On my way to Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, Kelantan, in 1977 to inspect a few construction projects, I saw a Datsun SSS speeding past our JKR (Public Works Department) Land Rover. The car was incredibly fast, and I couldn’t help but wonder why. I turned to my driver and asked, “Why is that car so fast?” Without hesitation, he replied, “That’s a Project Car.” Back then, we still used the British-made Land Rover, a four-wheel-drive vehicle, for our site inspections as JKR engineers. I was unfamiliar with cars at the time—I didn’t even own one. I used to borrow my mother’s old Datsun 1200. Curious, I kept pressing my driver, “What do you mean by Project Car?” He explained, “It’s a smuggler’s car, used for smuggling along the Kelantan-Thailand border.” I was intrigued. “Why do smugglers use the Datsun SSS?” “The Datsun SSS 1600cc is a robust, high-performance car,” he said. “It’s modified for extra power and durability. Smugglers need a car that can outpace...

Teaching is My Passion

Image
A few years after I graduated with civil engineering degree and working  for JKR,my late father asked me to resign and become a teacher. My father was Tok Guru Pondok Beris,Bachok,Kelantan. He wanted me to teach and impart knowledge to others because  of more 'pahala' from Allah.I was more interested  in getting  higher post in my career and more money then. So,I continued working for JKR for almost nine years  until resigned in 1984 to join private sector for greener pastures. Almost 18 years later.. In 2002,I met two gentlemen who are members of PMI-Project Management Institute,Malaysia Chapter. We share a common passion in project management.A year later,I formed a Project Management Training company with them as my associates or I called them my partners in crime. We went out to tell people of the PMI Model of managing projects. To my expectation,I love getting paid for talking about this passionate subject of mine.Slowly,I fade away from my construction...

Book-Life is A Project

Image
Below is the last page of my book-Life is A Project. Project Leadership I started writing this book on the 13th of May 2021-the day we celebrated Eid Fitr in 2021. My intention was to share my life experience in managing projects over the last thirty years of my life as a JKR engineer, Project Manager in Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor and GM of Ampang Hilir Property developers.  I gained business project management when I joined TDM Berhad, a listed KLSE company as a GM and later became the MD. When I retired to do business of my own business in construction, water engineering and IT, the project is my business. I did projects for others as well as for my own company.  Project management is close to my heart and stomach. It is my passion and bread and butter even though when I was the CEO of TDM whose core business is plantation and fast food. I was the project manager who grew up to be the project leader. This process took about ten years. Project Management is not an exact phy...

Why I am writing a book on Project Management?

Image
With more than 45 years of engagement in project management(PM) at different levels and in different industries, I have acquired some knowledge and experience in managing projects where I can share my expertise with others. I can provide valuable insights, tips, guidance and best practice that can upgrade the practising project managers and the new aspiring young project managers to acquire the strong fundamentals in managing projects. Sadly, very little knowledge of PM is being taught at the undergraduate level in universities. Many corporate executives and government officers have to resort to learning PM by trial and error. That is why I observed many errors and failures. To make matters worse, the senior management gives very little budget and attention to have more competent project managers in their organisation. Competency is the key to managing a project successfully. As an experienced project management consultant, I can share my personal experience and real-life examples to ...
